To all of our customers we appreciate you and your support. In that regard, food safety is of utmost importance at Reilly Craft Creamery. So much so, that when the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development found listeria in two flavors of our ice cream during a routine inspection, we acted fast. We pulled every single pint off the shelves. In every single retailer. Thankfully, no one got sick. Listeria is a bacteria that can hide in plain sight on seemingly clean equipment, so it is hard to know where it came from. So in the spirit of total transparency this one is on us. Although we have a solid sanitation program and good manufacturing practices in place, we dropped the ball somewhere. We are inspecting every process and every piece of equipment to see how this happened. This is a facility problem so unfortunately we have to close Cold Truth our soft serve experiment as well because the delicious base was pasteurized in the same equipment as the pints in question. We’ll be back as soon as we can ensure that our handcrafted ice cream is indeed the most delicious and healthy product you’ve ever experienced.
p.s. we should all give thanks too that our food safety system works so well. MDARD is a shining example of what government can do well.
